Bobby Jordan was always portrayed as either sickly or the young, naive character in the dead end kids movies. Maybe it was that way because he was the youngest, so it was easier to believe him as either always sick or abused. I don't know if he would have been able to pull off the tough image that the others had. He always seemed too small and cute instead. Even in the movie that he made called Off The Record, he does play a sort of little tough guy, but he still had that cutesy look that you felt sorry for him instead.

Also true. Bobby was always seen as the little brother, the one who needed protection because he was small and weak I guess you could say. He was good at playing the sick parts or the hurt parts--- basically he was good at being the youngest all the time, simply because he was. I think, though, he was better and different in the East Side Kids movies. He was seen as smart and leader-like.

I agree about that. In the East Sides Kids, he was supposed to be the smart one, the one who talked sense into Leo Gorcey's character. The voice of reason, I guess you could say.

And a perfect voice of reason he was! He not only proved to be the smart one who got Leo's character out of a few jams but also did show some leader qualities when Leo wasn't and sometimes was there.

It's too bad that Bobby Jordan didn't stay on into the Bowery Boys series except for the few he was in. I liked the pairings of Bobby Jordan, Leo Gorcey, and Huntz Hall in the East Side Kids. I think it could've worked in the Bowery Boys series too.

Oh yeah definitely! They made a great comedic team that would have been so great if it carried on to the Bowery Boys! But-- Leo and Huntz did make a great team themselves and pretty much carried the show.

Both of you are right about Bobby Jordan's role in the Dead End Kids series & he was better in the East Side Kids series. He was more dominant, tough & smart & in the earliest movies "Boys Of The City" & "That Gang Of Mine" he was the leader & had top billing & Leo Gorcey was 2nd billed under him. Then Leo Gorcey became the leader from then on of course & Huntz Hall was not in the series yet.
